Perimeter

• Perimeter is the total distance around the outside of a 2D shape.
• To find the perimeter, add the lengths of all the sides of the shape.

Area

• Area is the total space inside a 2D shape.
• To find the area of a rectangle, multiply the length by the width.
• For other shapes, use the appropriate formula (e.g. triangle: 1/2 × base × height).

Exam Tips

• Clearly label units (cm, m, etc.) in your working.
• Double-check your calculations, especially when dealing with non-rectangular shapes.
• Memorize common area/perimeter formulas for different shapes.
